What Is It?

The Kawasaki GTR1400 is a sports touring bike and is powered by a liquid cooled 1,352 cc inline four engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT), producing 152.9 bhp at 8,800 rpm and maximum torque at 6,200 rpm.

Features include:

  • Aluminium twin spar frame and shaft drive
  • Dual 310 mm wavy discs up front with four piston calipers
  • 270 mm wavy disc at the rear with two piston caliper
  • Combined braking system
  • Adjustable 43 mm upside down fork with 113 mm travel
  • Remotely adjustable rear shock with 136 mm travel
  • Traction control
  • Economy riding mode
  • Slipper clutch
  • Centre stand
  • 4->1 exhaust system
  • 6 speed gearbox with gear position indicator

The bike is based on the ZZR1400 sports bike, sharing the same 1,352 cc engine in a lower state of tune (-44 bhp) for easier low-mid speed riding. The main differences are the addition of a tall electrically adjustable screen, panniers, a more relaxed riding position and shaft drive which unfortunately add a lot to the weight.

Compared to the 2007-2009 model the glovebox is now in the left fairing, the re-designed electrically adjustable screen is 70 mm taller, the gills on the side are more pronounced and protect from the wind better, heated grips are now standard, the mirrors have been re-positioned, traction control has been added, the seat is more comfortable and it's 8 kg lighter.

Storage is great with 35 litre detachable hard panniers, there's a 12V socket for sat navs, tyre pressure monitoring and keyless start.

The 10-spoke 17" wheels take a 120/70 tyre at the front and a 190/50 at the rear.

Accessories include the ABS system (adds 4 kg), 47 litre top box and comfort seat.
