Tell us a bit about you
I'm a medium height retired male. I've been riding bikes about 20 years on and off and have owned around 10 bikes.
Why did you choose it?
I always wanted and loved Ducati. The looks, the thumping V-Twin engine. Did I mention the looks?
What is good about it?
It's a great all round bike and the riding position is not as severe as some might think. The torque of the engine. Put it in top gear and just roll the throttle on....
What could be improved?
Access to the oil filler with the fairing on.
Any mods or upgrades?
No.
What is the economy like?
I would say average economy. It depends on your right hand!
How is the engine?
It's an awesome motor, a real gem of an engine.
How does it handle?
Owning the S model means it comes fully loaded with Ohlins. Need I say more?
What are the brakes like?
The 1098 S was the first bike to have Brembo Monoblock brakes fitted as standard. Incredible stopping power.
Is it comfortable?
I can do 250+ miles in the saddle without problem and I'm at retirement age!
How reliable have you found it?
Unbelievably reliable. I've covered 9,000 miles in 2 years with only one mechanical issue when a stone went through the radiator.
What's the servicing frequency and cost like?
Interim service every year or 7,500 miles. Major service at 15,000 miles. However you had better re-mortgage the house if you're not mechanically minded!
To Sum Up
The Ducati 1098 S is awesome and would make a great sports tourer if you could fit luggage to it.
