What Is It?

The Yamaha FZ1 is a premium semi-faired sports bike and is powered by a liquid cooled 998 cc inline four engine, producing 143 bhp at 10,000 rpm and maximum torque at 7,500 rpm.

Features include:

  • Steel tubular frame and Aluminium swingarm
  • Dual 298 mm discs up front with four piston calipers
  • 267 mm disc at the rear with single piston caliper
  • Adjustable 43 mm fork with 140 mm travel
  • Adjustable rear shock with 135 mm travel
  • Four 37 mm Mikuni sidedraft carbs
  • Yoshimura 4->1 exhaust system
  • 6 speed gearbox

It's basically the same engine as the 1999 R1 but re-jigged slightly for more power lower down, with slightly smaller carbs, a heavier flywheel, smaller clutch, 10% heavier crankshaft, Aluminium rather than Magnesium cylinder head cover, smaller radiator and re-designed airbox.

It all adds up to a heavier but easier to use bike for the road and the faired version is £400 more. The 17" wheels take a 120/70 tyre at the front and 180/55 at the rear.

Colours: Black, silver, red, blue, red/black
