What Is It?

The 2012 Honda NC700S is a naked bike with an optional automatic gearbox and a cunning storage compartment where the fuel tank would usually be. It's powered by a Euro 3 compliant liquid cooled 670 cc parallel twin engine, producing 46.9 bhp at 6,250 rpm and maximum torque at 4,750 rpm.

Features include:

  • Steel tubular frame
  • 320 mm wavy disc at the front with Nissin three piston caliper
  • 240 mm wavy disc at the rear with single piston caliper
  • Combined Braking System (C-ABS)
  • 41 mm fork with 120 mm travel
  • Rear shock with 120 mm travel
  • 6 speed gearbox

The main innovative feature is a storage compartment for a full face helmet where the fuel tank would normally be, making it one really practical bike. The fuel tank sits under the seat and is accessed by lifting up the pillion seat. The 17" wheels take a 120/70 tyre at the front and 160/60 at the rear.

It's pretty similar to the adventure styled NC700X and closely related to the NC700D Integra scooter, all of which use the same engine. Compared to the X the S has a lower handlebar, lower seat and less suspension travel. The X also has an adventure style beak at the front.

Honda's optional Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) version adds 12 kg to the weight. It has a fully automatic mode and simulated manual mode, with the auto mode offering S mode for sporty riding or D for more economical riding. You can even interrupt it to quickly downshift before overtaking, then it will take over in auto mode again.

Options include a 35 litre top box, 29 litre panniers, rear hugger, screen, 12V socket and centre stand.

Colours: Black, silver, white
